Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Velveteen, Eden, Carly

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — For those looking to adopt a pet, a great place to look for your new family member is at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter. The facility, located at 75 Marino Ave. in Port Washington, houses dozens of dogs — and all of them need a furever home.

Here, we've rounded up a list of adoptable dogs for a series called "Patch's Adoptable Pets of the Week." This week, we're featuring Velveteen, Eden, and Carly.

The dog-only shelter is facilitating adoptions by appointment only. An appointment can be made by calling 516-869-6311. Days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

VELVETEEN

Info from the shelter:

The most accurate way to describe this gorgeous girl is that she is a true dog-angel on Earth. Velveteen was pulled from an overcrowded shelter in Georgia — unbeknownst to both us and the shelter in Georgia, she was pregnant! She safely gave birth to TEN puppies which have all since found loving homes, and now it is her turn.

Velveteen is as sweet and soft as can be. Her favorite thing to do is be pet and cuddled — she even gives hugs! She has a nice medium energy and enjoys playing with toys and going for walks. Velveteen enjoys the company of other dogs as long as they are well mannered — she would not enjoy going to a dog park or a dominant/pushy dog. She is finally ready to start her new life and cannot wait to meet the lucky person that gets to take her home.

EDEN

Eden is a 2-year-old Cattle Dog (we think!) mix that has stolen all of our hearts. She was pulled from an overcrowded shelter in Georgia through The Shelter Connection's rescue program and is ready for her second chance at life.

Eden is extremely affectionate and playful — she is seeking an active family that can keep up with her and continues her training. Eden gets along well with other dogs — we believe Eden would make a wonderful addition to just about any home.

CARLY

Carly is a 10-month-old Pit Bull Mix that is seeking her new forever family. Carly was found as a stray with multiple collars on her but sadly no one has called for her. She is super sweet and playful but takes a few minutes longer to warm up to men — all it takes is a few treats and throws of the tennis ball and she's happy as can be!

Carly is seeking an active family that is dedicated to continuing her training- she is very smart! We are currently unsure if she gets along with other dogs — a meeting is required with any other dogs living in the house.
