Hydrofracking: LWV Presents Both Sides

The pros and cons of hydrofracking (hydraulic fracturing), a method of extracting natural gas from shale using pressurized liquids, will be the topic of a panel discussion organized by the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Port Washington/Manhasset on Thursday, March 22 at 7 pm at the Manhasset Library.

Patti and Doug Wood, speaking on behalf of the environmental association Grassroots, will explain why they believe hydrofracking poses a risk to future generations. Nancy and Tom Schmitt, representing the Independent Oil and Gas Association, will explain why they claim hydrofracking is safe and necessary.  After presentations by both sides, members of the audience will be permitted to ask questions.
