• Port Washington school board debates high school grading policy (longislandpress.com) — Port Washington parents and students should know the school board is still revising Schreiber High School’s grading policy, especially how Regents Exams and honors/AP weighting will count toward final grades. At the same meeting, the superintendent addressed a hate-related incident at Weber Middle School involving a swastika, noting the symbol was removed and an investigation with Port Washington police is underway. 
• Michael J. Hynes, former Port Washington schools superintendent, pleads guilty in connection with 2024 crash (newsday.com) — Port Washington residents are learning that former schools superintendent Michael J. Hynes has pleaded guilty to a felony vehicular assault charge tied to a 2024 crash in Sayville. He left the Port Washington district after the incident, and leadership has since shifted to current superintendent Gaurav Passi, with sentencing scheduled for early February.
• The Knit Wits: spreading warmth, one stitch at a time (longislandpress.com) — A lively group of residents at The Sinclair in Port Washington meets weekly as the “Knit Wits” to craft hats, scarves, and blankets for neighbors in need. Their donations, including several bins of winter gear, support local families through nearby synagogues and community centers while giving members a strong sense of friendship and purpose.
