As part of the tree-1-1 Peninsula Tree Protection program, Residents For A More Beautiful Port Washington is notifying the community about a tree that the Town of North Hempstead tagged for removal six days ago. It is located adjacent to the Post Office on LuEsther Mertz Place. It has been reported that the tree is causing a trip and fall hazard due to roots buckling the sidewalk.
Residents For A More Beautiful Port Washington has urged the Town to consider alternative measures to save this beautiful tree planted forty years ago. While Residents agrees that safety and handicapped access is of upmost priority, we have urged the Town to study the situation further before removing this tree.
Councilwoman De Giorgio has agreed to consult an arborist and consider alternative and safe options for saving the tree. If you support saving this tree, you can still let your voice be heard.
