Village of Great Neck to Host Public Forum Regarding Downtown Revitalization Project
The Village of Great Neck Mayor Ralph Kreitzman and the Board of Trustees will host a presentation regarding the village’s “Old Village, New Main Street” effort, which is designed to revitalize its main street – Middle Neck Road, the original Great Neck downtown – into a safe and successful area. The forum is open to the public and will take place on Monday, March 26 at Great Neck House from 8-10 p.m.
“The ultimate goal is to transform the Village of Great Neck’s downtown area into a safe and vibrant location for our residents and shoppers to enjoy,” said Mayor Ralph Kreitzman. “This presentation is a major step in the right direction.”
The Village of Great Neck’s downtown architects and designers will present their plans and recommendations after an extensive and thorough study. The presentation will include plans for pedestrian safety, traffic calming, sidewalk and parking lot entrance improvements as well as sign, awning and facade guidelines. In addition, the village is expected to start a rezoning process of certain areas of Middle Neck Road.

In conjunction with the upcoming meeting, the village has previously conducted 13 focus group meetings and a public-wide meeting to generate ideas and formulate plans for the revitalization project. “Continued community input is critical to this effort. We ask that all community members participate in this important process, so that we can redevelop our downtown in a manner that is best for our residents, shoppers, merchants – the whole community,” added Mayor Kreitzman.
