Barge Worker Pulled From Water: Port Washington FD Medics Join Rescue

Emergency workers helped get the man safely from a tugboat to an ambulance after an early Monday morning fall off of a barge.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — An early Monday morning rescue by the Port Washington Fire Department helped get a barge worker to the hospital after he fell into frigid waters in Buchanan Marine in Port Washington.

According to the department, they received a 4:30 a.m. call to assist in a rescue of a man pulled from the water after he fell off of a barge. Crew members were able to get the man onto a docked tug boat and warm him up, but needed help safely transporting him to an ambulance.

Members of Port Washington's Fire Medic Company No. 1 pulled the man in a stretcher up to the dock using ropes. No update on the man's condition was available.
