Driver Dies After Fiery Crash Into Quaker Meeting House On Long Island Dating Back To 1800s: Police
The man died after crashing into the Manhasset building, which sustained substantial structural damage, police say.
MANHASSET, NY — A driver died after crashing into the Manhasset Friends Meeting House on Northern Boulevard early Thursday morning, police said.
According to the Nassau County Police Department's Sixth Squad, the incident took place at 5:22 a.m. at the building, located at 1421 Northern Blvd, leaving one person deceased. The 2000 Ford Edge was completely "engulfed in flames," police said.
The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County police medic, authorities said.

The Manhasset Fire Department responded to extinguish the blaze.
The building was unoccupied and sustained "substantial structural damage," police said.

The Quaker Meeting House has deep roots on Long Island: According to the TriCollege Libraries, the building dates back to 1812; Manhasset Meeting was established in 1702, as part of Flushing Monthly Meeting. The Meeting House is still active.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
