Free, Cheaper Taxi Rides Offered To Residents With Disabilities

Town of North Hempstead residents with disabilities can get free or discounted rides to grocery stores and medical appointments.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Town of North Hempstead has partnered with local taxi companies to offer free and discounted rides to residents with disabilities.

"Transportation can sometimes be challenging for individuals with disabilities, especially on Long Island," Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said. "We hope this will help so many of our residents with their grocery shopping and medical appointments."

Residents with a disability between the ages of 21 and 59 are eligible for free taxi rides to grocery stores and discounted rides to medical appointments. All residents aged 60 and above are eligible for this service as well through the Project Independence transportation program.
