Guilty Plea For Killing 2 Teens In Wrong-Way Crash: Nassau DA
Drew Hassenbein and Ethan Falkowitz, who attended Roslyn Middle School, were killed instantly in the May 2023 crash, prosecutors said.
MINEOLA, NY — A Roslyn man pleaded guilty on Friday to charges in connection to a wrong-way crash that killed two 14-year-olds last year, prosecutors said.
Amandeep Singh, 36, pleaded guilty to charges that include aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of second-degree manslaughter, two counts of second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting as a felony and driving while ability impaired by combined influence of alcohol and a drug, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.
On May 3, 2023, at approximately 10:19 p.m., Singh was driving a 2021 Dodge Ram TRX 95 miles per hour, crossed over the road, and continued south in the northbound lanes while intoxicated and high on cocaine, Donnelly said.

Singh then crashed his vehicle into an oncoming Alfa Romeo that contained four teenage passengers, Donnelly said.
An analysis of the event data recorder in Singh’s vehicle indicated that he was driving 75 miles per hour in a 40 mile-per-hour zone at impact, prosecutors said.

Drew Hassenbein and Ethan Falkowitz, who were seated in the right side of the Alfa Romeo, were killed instantly, Donnelly said. They attended Roslyn Middle School and were members of the Roslyn High School Tennis team.
“Throughout this prosecution my position was clear. Nothing short of the maximum prison sentence for the top count charged would be enough to hold this defendant accountable for the total devastation he caused the Hassenbein and Falkowitz families and their entire Roslyn community. The evidence of this defendant’s guilt was overwhelming and left him with no choice but to finally take responsibility today for the lives he destroyed," Donnelly said.
Singh's attorney James Kousouros told Patch that his client "has fully accepted responsibility for his actions on this tragic night. He is truly sorry for the unimaginable pain and loss his actions have caused and this guilt and sorrow will live with him far beyond the sentence he must now serve. Both he and his family extend their deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the families involved."
Singh is due back in court on February 7, and is expected to be sentenced to 8-1/3 to 25 years in prison, the D.A.'s office said.
