Help Animal Shelters Impacted By Hurricane Ida: Aug. 30
North Shore Animal League America will be collecting supplies for shelters impacted by Hurricane Ida until 4 p.m.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — North Shore Animal League America is hosting a drive to collect badly needed supplies for shelters impacted by Hurricane Ida.
The Port Washington-based organization says it will be collecting supplies for a relief transport until 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 30.

- Cleaning supplies
- Paper towels
- New litter boxes and litter
- Sponges
- Dog crates and cat carriers
- New food and water bowls
- New or gently used towels
- Bleach and anti-bacterial cleaning wipes
- New or gently used collars, leashes, and pet toys
- Bottled water
- Garbage bags
- Wee Wee pads
- Dog and cat food
- Dog biscuits and cat treats
Supplies can be dropped off at North Shore Animal League America (16 Lewyt St.). A mobile unit with your donations will depart the Port Washington campus early Tuesday morning and head south, officials said. Once the supplies are delivered, North Shore's mobile unit will return to Long Island with animals from its shelter partners.
Officials say this will create space for the shelters down South to take in animals displaced by the storm.

Ida made landfall twice on Sunday as a Category 4 hurricane, slamming into coastal Louisiana and knocking out power to at least a million customers. Ida has since weakened to a tropical storm, but still remains a flash flood threat to several Gulf Coast states, including Mississippi.
