How Schreiber High School Plans To Celebrate 2020 Grads
Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington plans to honor graduating seniors a little differently in the coronavirus era.
PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Caps, gowns and pomp will be on full display this year to celebrate seniors graduating from Paul D. Schreiber High School.
In a letter to the school community this week, Principal Ira Pernick and other officials said the school will recognize the Class of 2020 over three days in June. Graduates dressed in cap and gowns will drive to Schreiber Circle with their families one car at a time. Seniors will get out of their cars, have their name announced over a loud speaker and walk across the stage with the iconic "Pomp and Circumstance" song playing in the background.
A professional photographer will snap photos and share them with students and their families. Families are encouraged to snap photos or record video from inside their cars as well.

Notably, the school also announced Aug. 4 as the date for an in-person graduation ceremony, which will only happen if the state's ban on large gatherings are relaxed. Currently, gatherings are limited to 10 people.
"We are continuing to work on more opportunities to celebrate each and every one of you before the school year is done," the letter said.
Michael Hynes, the district superintendent, told Patch on Thursday no plans have been announced about proms.
