Katz Women's Hospital Meets 'Baby-Friendly' Standards From Global Program
Baby-Friendly is initiated by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund.

MANHASSET, NY — Katz Women's Hospital at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) has received high marks for its maternity program.
The Manhasset hospital has been designated a "Baby-Friendly Hospital" by Baby-Friendly USA.
Baby-Friendly is a global program initiated by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund. It certifies hospitals for five years.

“Northwell delivers about 30,000 babies each year and the Katz Women’s Hospital offers a special environment to make the best outcomes possible," said Dr. David Hirschwerk, vice president, chief medical officer, North Shore University Hospital.
Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center in New Hyde Park is also recognized its comprehensive care to moms and newborns.

To meet Baby-Friendly standards, a hospital must implement 10 steps to successful breastfeeding and be compliant with the international code of marketing of breast-milk substitutes.
“This prestigious recognition demonstrates our commitment to upholding the highest standards in infant feeding and adhering to the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative,” said Registered Nurse Marianne McTyre, director, Katz Women’s Hospital.
