PORT WASHINGTON, NY — For years, the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce would hang twinkling lights, fresh green garland, and bright red bows on lamp posts along Main Street in preparation for the holidays.

It's a tradition the Chamber takes pride in — and what its executive director, Bobbie Polay, says is a way to "add a warm and festive touch to our beautiful town."

However, due to a lack of funding, this festive tradition may soon be a thing of the past.

"Sadly, most years the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce has a hard time raising enough money to pay for the decorations," Polay said in an email. "Unless we can raise enough to cover our costs this year, it will be the last year we are able to do this."

In hopes of keeping the holiday tradition alive, the Chamber is offering businesses the opportunity to "Adopt a Lamppost." When businesses make a $100 donation, they will adopt a lamp post and receive a certificate. Donors of $1,000 or more will be recognized as "Holiday Angels" and receive a personalized plaque.
