Loaded Handgun, Marijuana Seized In Manhasset Traffic Stop: PD

The man tried to flee arrest, which led to a brief struggle with an officer, police say.

A Queens man who tried to flee police following a traffic stop in Manhasset had 1 pound of marijuana and a loaded handgun inside his car on Wednesday night, police say.

According to authorities, Brandon Moore, 24, of Laurelton, tried to flee on foot after police pulled over his 2002 BMW near North Shore Hospital, located at 100 Community Drive, for a traffic violation at 11:19 p.m. Moore was apprehended following a brief struggle, which injured an officer's shoulder, police say.

Authorities say they found approximately 1 pound of marijuana and a loaded handgun inside of his vehicle.

Moore was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault, criminal possession of marijuana and several vehicle and traffic law violations.

The officer was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injury.

Moore will be arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
