Machete Recovered During Roslyn Heights Traffic Stop: Police

The driver was arrested on Saturday night.

A man was found to possess a machete and a quantity of marijuana following a traffic stop in Roslyn Heights on Saturday night, police say.

Authorities conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Jamaica resident Wayne Anderson at the corner of Warner Avenue and Expressway Plaza at 10:15 p.m.

Police say they noticed a brown wooden handle with black tape sticking out from under the front of the driver's seat. Anderson said it was a machete that he used for protection, police say.

He was placed under arrest without incident. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a black handled knife and several plastic bags and glass jars containing marijuana.

Anderson was charged with fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon, fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was released on an appearance ticket.
