Major Water Main Breaks; Discolored Water Possible In Manhasset
A water main broke in Manhasset on Thursday morning, officials say.

MANHASSET, NY — A major water main break in Manhasset may cause residents and businesses to see discolored water.
The break happened Thursday morning on Community Drive, the Manhasset Lakeville Water District said. Community Drive is now opened, after the road was closed earlier today due to the rupture.
The district does not know if the Plandome area will be impacted. Residents have reported seeing brown water in Manhasset.

Village Clerk and Treasurer Barbara Peebles sent an alert to Plandome residents in the event that residents experience reduced water pressure or water discoloration. Water found with discoloration is safe, she said, but residents should run the water from the lowest faucet in their homes for up to 20 minutes until it is clear.
Running water from the lowest point in homes reduces the impact of discolored water running to the upper floors, and allows the cause of discoloration to clear from the lowest entry point, Peebles said.
