Man Accused Of DWI With 2 Kids In Car In East Hills

The man appeared to have glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

A Florida man is accused of DWI while his two children were in the car on Sunday morning in East Hills.

According to authorities, cops initiated a traffic stop on a 2018 Dodge Caravan after the driver, 39-year-old Gotha resident Mahendra Ro Samaroo, failed to signal a lane change and failed to maintain the lane while traveling southbound on Glen Cove Road at 1:31 a.m.

Police say Ro Samaroo appeared to have glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. His two children, ages 8 and 10, were seated in the rear of the vehicle.

Ro Samaroo was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of aggravated DWI, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, DWI and several vehicle and traffic law violations.

The children were released to their mother.

He was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
