Nassau Child Care Worker Slapped 1-Year-Old Child: Police

Police say she slapped the child on the back of the head on several different occasions during the month of September.

A woman was arrested on Thursday for slapping a 1-year-old child while working at a child care center in Manhasset, police say.

According to authorities, Jeanine Sammis, 36, of Hewlett, was seen slapping the baby on the back of her head on several different occasions during the month of September, including Sept. 29, at KinderCare, located at 1355 Northern Boulevard.

Her alleged actions were brought to the attention of KinderCare's management and an investigation led to her arrest. Sammis was charged with second-degree attempted assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

She was released on an Appearance Ticket and is due back in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
