Manhasset Welcomes 2 New Principals To District

The men have been named principals of Munsey Park Elementary School and Shelter Rock Elementary School.

The Manhasset School District proudly announces the appointment of two new principals to lead its elementary schools. Chad Altman has been named principal of Munsey Park Elementary School, while Richard Roder has been named principal of Shelter Rock Elementary School.

Altman has served as the principal at P.S. 100 in the Bronx since 2007. Prior to his appointment as principal, Altman taught mathematics in the New York City school system. His appointment fills the vacancy created following the recent appointment of current Munsey Park Elementary School Principal Dr. Jean Kendall to the position of assistant superintendent for human resources for the District.

Roder has served as the principal at Queens United Middle School 289 in Laurelton since 2013, the school’s inaugural year. Prior to his appointment as principal, Roder also served as a social studies department leader and teacher for many years in New York City. His appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of current Shelter Rock Elementary School Principal Robert Geczik, effective in the fall.

During the past several months, the district has been engaged in an extensive principal search to fill the positions at both Munsey Park and Shelter Rock. The Manhasset Board of Education and administration interviewed a number of highly qualified candidates for these two desired positions and were impressed with a number of applicants.

“Both Mr. Altman and Mr. Roder proved to be equally accomplished and embody many of the attributes we are seeking in our school leaders,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Vincent Butera. “They have proven to be outstanding communicators and fostered strong connections with their respective school communities. They both understand our emphasis on nurturing our students social, emotional and academic growth, by working with and building the capacity of our faculty and staff, while building a partnership with our parent community and our many community partners.”

They are both eager to begin their career here in Manhasset and will have an opportunity to meet with many of our students and families at the SCA Fair on May 5.
