PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A new community outreach center opened last week in Port Washington, designed to assist those who care for outdoor cats living in neighborhoods on Long Island. North Shore Animal League America's Community Outreach Resource Center is located in a renovated building on the Animal League America's campus.

The center aims to help cat caretakers identify feral, stray and lost cats, and what to do when residents find a cat living outside in their neighborhood. There will be assistance for those who want to trap, neuter, vaccinate and release cats, and guidance for those attempting to socialize cats to become adoptable as pets.

People can rent supplies and attend trainings, and a "Feline Food Bank" will give out food for those caring for their "community cats."
