PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Hundreds gathered in Port Washington over the weekend for the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Blumenfeld Park. Children sang songs such as "The First Noel," "We Three Kings" and "Silent Night,"and neighbors also watched a performance of a Nativity scene. Santa and Mrs. Claus also rode in on a fire truck, much to the delight of cheering kids.

Organizers with the Port Washington Christmas Tree Lighting Committee told Patch on Tuesday that about 500 people attended the half-hour event Sunday afternoon. Members of the Port Washington Fire Department were honored this year and illuminated the tree to a cheering crowd.

The tree-lighting committee is made up of residents who want to keep the "spirit of Christmas alive" within the community. Below is a photo roundup of the event, courtesy of the committee. Patch also livestreamed the tree-lighting, so anyone who missed it can watch without missing a thing.
