North Hempstead To Promote Sustainable Businesses: How To Apply

Local green and sustainable companies are encouraged to apply to the Town's newly expanded Small Business Spotlight program.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Town of North Hempstead wants to highlight sustainable and green companies as part of its newly expanded Small Business Spotlight initiative.

Officials say the goal of this expansion is to spotlight a wide range of local products and services that are environmentally friendly. The Town will promote the series on its website, social media, and other platforms — including North Hempstead TV (NHTV).

All businesses have to do first is apply online.

"We are pleased to be expanding our program to showcase environmentally friendly establishments," former Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth previously said in December, when she was acting Town Supervisor. "Our goal is to engage residents in efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions contributing to climate change."

Businesses interested in applying can feature a green product, service, or practice that improves sustainability. Categories include locally made goods, organic lawn care or pest control, thrifting, green housekeeping/cleaning services, and renewable energy installations.

The addition of sustainable companies to the Small Business Spotlight bolsters the Town's effort to become a Climate Smart Community, which is a state-run program that helps municipalities in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to a changing climate.

Promoting sustainable businesses within the Town means the municipality could hold a Buy Green/Buy Local Campaign.
