North Hempstead Town Expands Weekly Virtual Programming

The weekly NHTV at-home programs will now include virtual cooking classes, sign language classes, sports skills trainings and more.

TOWN OF NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY — The Town of North Hempstead is expanding its weekly virtual programming, adding new remote activities for residents such as targeted programs for children and seniors and entertainment for all ages.

Now, the weekly North Hempstead TV at-home virtual programs will include cooking classes by the Cooking Lab in Port Washington, sign language classes by ASL Discoveries, Japanese language class and crafts by Long Island Japanese Culture Center, bubble workshops by BubbleDad, art classes by Marie Saint-Cyr, yoga, singalongs, and more.

"We have adapted our recreational offerings during these unprecedented times to present fun and interactive programs for residents to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said in a news release. "We wanted to be able to offer programs that the Town normally hosts, but in a virtual setting so everyone can still participate. This ensures that we can do our part in helping to keep our residents safe and allow them to watch and learn something new at the same time."

New Project Independence exercise episodes debut Mondays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with many of the classes happening at the same time as they would in-person.

The Town is also offering a Virtual Senior FunDay Monday program this summer, a series which offers seniors from throughout the Town with the opportunity to enjoy programming from home. The first FunDay Monday garnered nearly 1,000 views on Facebook alone, which does not include the regular TV viewership.

In addition to appearing on the Town's social media channels, all programs are broadcast on the Town’s public access television station, NHTV. Residents will be able to watch the programs on channel 18 or 63 on Cablevision and channel 46 on Verizon FIOS or by visiting www.mynhtv.com.
