Outdoor Concert Series In Port Washington Set For September

Port Washington Public Library presents "Soundswap Live," an eclectic outdoor concert series at Sunset Park. It kicks off in September.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Musicians from all walks of life will be performing on one stage next month for Port Washington Public Library's concert, "Soundswap Live."

The outdoor concert series, set to take place at the John Phillip Sousa Memorial Bandshell in Sunset Park, will feature a diverse array of performances — everything from folk music and classic rock to acapella and blues.

"We have something for everyone," said Tony Traguardo, a media librarian who helped produce "Soundswap Live."

The concerts are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to social distance, wear a mask, and bring their own chairs.

At the start of the event, staff from the Port Washington Public Library will be handing out free swag and providing residents with library signup forms.

The Joni Project

  • Date/Time: Sunday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m.
  • Description: The Joni Project, fronted by the remarkable Long Island-based multiple-instrumentalist and songwriter, Katie Pearlman, brings fresh interpretation to Joni's legendary work from her many eras and genres, particularly the time of her brilliant collaborations with Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, and Michael Brecker. Presented by PWPL.

John Byrnes Band

  • Date/Time: Sunday, Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
  • Description: John Byrnes Band is a Long Island-based rock group with a powerful and captivating sound. JBB is all about rocking blues guitar solos, catchy melodies, soulful vocals, and rhythms that stick with you. With a mix of "Guitar Hero" inspired covers and original rock, JBB achieves a sound that truly everyone can enjoy. Presented by PWPL.

Marc Berger + RIDE

  • Date/Time: Saturday, Sept. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
  • Description: Marc Berger has performed at Austin's SXSW Music Festival and the Kerrville and Falcon Ridge Folk Festivals. He has opened shows for Bob Dylan and other national acts, and his song "The Last One" was a staple of Richie Havens' concerts. Inspired by Marc's lifelong love affair with the American West, 'RIDE', his critically acclaimed current release, presents ten cinematic recordings capturing its wide-open spaces and timeless romantic allure. Presented by PWPL.

The Harmony Brothers

  • Date/Time: Saturday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m.
  • Description: The five members of Harmony Brothers are all veteran club musicians with a passion for covering the classic rock music. With vocally-oriented rock music including three-and-four-part harmonies, The Harmony Brothers love playing music not usually played by other bands. Presented by PWPL.

The Boomer Brothers and James Thom Thing

  • Description: Writing music that defies genres, otherwise known as "eclectic," The James Thom Thing continues to release original music with a unique style and ear-catching melodies. Presented by PWPL.
