Port Community To Discuss Syrian Refugee Sponsorship

A local resident will discuss how he sponsored a Syrian family and how others can get involved.

The Port Washington community can lean how to help and get involved with an organization called Najda Now Canada, which helps Syrian refugees emigrate and resettle in Canada, at a discussion held on Wednesday, March 21.

Adam Haber, local entrepreneur and head of the Economic Development and Government Efficiency for the Town of Hempstead, will address the community regarding his work with Najda Now Canada (NNC) at Temple Beth Israel, located at 1 Temple Drive, 7:30 p.m.

The civil war in Syria, which has been going on for the past six years, has been called "the worst man-made disaster this world has seen since World War II... a torture-chamber: a place of savage horror and absolute injustice," according to a press release.

Millions of Syrians are homeless and don't have basic necessities to survive. Haber, who saw the similarities of the Holocaust and the war going on in Syria, decided to join NNC to save lives.

Through NNC, Haber and his family have sponsored a Syrian family who resettled in Canada.
