PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Between family, work and other obligations, the Port Washington school district's Board of Education knows many parents can't physically attend its committee meetings. Rather than swim against the current and try to persuade more people to attend, the committee is turning to technology to get parents and the community involved.

Specifically, a podcast.

Using the Anchor app, the committee, chaired by Dave Kerpen, recorded its inaugural podcast Tuesday at a budget and facilities committee meeting. The hour-and-20-minute meeting covered various district improvements.

"Might not be riveting but we cover paying for roofing needs, zero based budgeting and some ideas to generate revenue including solar energy and the development of a property in Sands Point the district owns," Kerpen wrote in a Facebook post announcing the new podcast.
