Port Washington Farmers Market Extends Season
The farmers market will be staying open later into the year than initially scheduled.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Port Washington Farmers Market, which was scheduled to close its season on Oct. 28, will continue operating through Saturday, Nov. 11, said Doug Wood, associate director of Grassroots Environmental Education, the local non-profit which operates the market.
"We've had an unfortunate spate of rainy Saturday mornings in the past two months and we wanted to be fair to our vendors and our customers," Wood said in a news release. "The fall harvest is the most productive part of the growing season for farmers and PW foodies know all about stocking up on winter squashes and sweet potatoes, and freezing peppers and late season tomatoes for use in winter stews. If you show up early you will have the best selection."
Grassroots started the market to provide local organic farmers with a venue to sell directly to
customers, and for the community to have access to fresh, organic food, as well as the the farmer who grows it.

"The community has been very supportive, and it's great to see people walking around the
market with their baskets and reusable bags bulging with veggies, fish, honey, cheese, pickles
and all kinds of baked goods to enjoy throughout the week," said Grassroots Executive Director
Patti Wood.
Next year, the market will move to a different location near the PAL field as the Town Dock is
scheduled to undergo extensive renovation.
