Port Washington Helps Local Family

A GoFundMe campaign seeks to raise money so neighbors can cope with expenses after choking accident.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help the Herrara family.

According to the GoFundMe page:

On the evening of February 7th, 2015, Manorhaven resident Fernando Herrera was eating dinner with his family when a piece of bread got stuck in his esophagus and cut off his air supply. Unable to breathe for twenty minutes, he went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to Winthrop Hospital, where he now remains in a permanent vegetative state.

A devoted husband and father, Fernando has worked locally as a handyman and gardener. His wife, Pilar, works as a nanny and babysitter. They have one child in the school district who is in elementary school, and are active members in church and in the Port Washington community.

Without Fernando’s income, Pilar is unable to cover their basic living expenses such as rent, food and gas. All money raised will be used to help the family as well as put into a long term fund to help their daughter.
