PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Ralphie Parker and his dreams of owning a Red Ryder BB gun are coming to Port Washington. Students at Paul D. Schreiber High School will perform the timeless classic "A Christmas Story" from Friday through Sunday, according to the district's website.

The show will play at Schreiber's auditorium on Campus Drive. There will be four shows in all. Adult tickets can be bought for $20 and students can get in for $10. Seniors can get in for free.

The play is based on the classic film. Jean Shepard relays what it's like to be a child in Indiana in the early 1940s. The play will include all the best elements of the film, including school bully, Scut Farkas, an "extremely bundled up" little brother, an ill-advised experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost, and, of course, the infamous "leg lamp."

Director Christine Nelson told the Port Washington News the play is funny and "iconic."

"We see every single person that the narrator talks about," she said. "We get to see them visually on the stage. It has really become a true ensemble, with a lot of humor. The show will feature all the iconic scenes from the film, moments that people remember from watching the show on television."
