"A simple thank-you is so inadequate for all that has been done for me during this campaign," she wrote. "Many of you have donated to my campaign, canvassed, made phone calls, hosted an event and etc. Thank you for being there for me and for being my friend."
Redmond said his team was "highly disappointed" in the results and that the odds were against him from the start.
"I knew going in we were up against a stacked deck, but that is never a good excuse not to fight for you," he wrote in a Facebook post. "In fact, we’ve inspired too many people along the way to ever give up."
Redmond added that his campaign aimed to give people a voice to air their concerns with local government.
Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton's campaign said she was "very honored" by the vote of confidence her supporters gave her.
"She has a lot of important projects to finish and many more to begin over the next two years," the campaign said.
