PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A two-hour delay has been announced at Guggenheim Elementary School in Port Washington following a blustering Halloween storm that left more than 1,000 families in the dark.

Michael Hynes, the superintendent, made the announcement in a Facebook post Friday morning.

"Port Washington families...2 hour delay at Guggenheim," he wrote. "No power. Connect Ed coming out at 7:10 am. Will update you soon."

More than 220,000 businesses and homes across the state were without power around 7 a.m. Friday. Lingering outages across Port Washington affected hundreds of customers, mostly near Guggenheim.

Meanwhile, more than 7,400 customers were in the dark in both Nassau and Suffolk counties.
