Recycle Pollutants, Household Items At N. Hempstead S.T.O.P. Event

The program provides a safe and environmentally-friendly way to dispose of household hazardous waste. See the full list of what's accepted.

Residents are invited to empty out their houses of unwanted pollutants, clothing items, personal documents and more and bring these items to the upcoming S.T.O.P. (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) event later this month.

The event will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29 at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington.

The Town of North Hempstead will also be distributing free paper lawn and leaf bags to residents, which can be used to dispose of residential yard waste in an environmentally friendly manner.

"The Town is proud to be able to continue to offer a convenient and environmentally responsible way for our residents to dispose of hazardous and sensitive waste,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said in a press release.

Residents will also have the chance to shred and dispose of personal documents, which will both reduce the risk of identity theft and help protect the environment. You can shred any personal documents and credit cards free of charge.
