Responders Cut Apart Car To Rescue Trapped Driver
Two people were injured in the Port Washington crash on Friday night, officials say.
Firefighters had to cup apart a car to free a trapped driver following a single-vehicle crash that injured two people in Port Washington on Friday night, officials say.
According to the Port Washington Fire Department, a vehicle crashed into a tree on Sands Point Road at Tibbits Lane at 11:25 p.m.
The passenger of the vehicle self-extricated and was taken to a local hospital. The driver was heavily pinned and rescue members had to cut and remove all four doors, the roof, the seat mounts, brake and gas pedal to free the driver, according to fire officials.

It took about one hour to free the driver, who was then taken by ambulance to a nearby helicopter and airlifted to a local hospital.
The Port Washington Fire Department and the Nassau County Police Department’s Emergency Ambulance Bureau assisted with the rescue.
