SOUPer Bowl Saturday Set for Jan. 31
Local restaurants vie to become Port Washington's 2015 SOUPer BOWL Champ; a portion of the proceeds go to Twin Pines food pantry.
A proud Port Washington tradition returns Saturday, Jan 31: the annual SOUPer Bowl at the United Methodist Church.
Presented by the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, the event provides residents the chance to “chase away the winter blahs,” buy a spoon, and become a taster.
Here’s how the popular event works. Upon paying the admission fee, you’ll receive a spoon and a ballot. Next stop at each of the soup stations and receive two ounces of a variety of soups donated by participating Port Washington restaurants. Then vote for your favorite soup. When all the ballots are tallied, the 2015 SOUPer BOWL Champ is determined. The winner will receive the “People’s Choice Award.”

There will also be a select Judges’ Panel with celebrities and culinary experts. This year’s celebrity panel includes Len Berman, sportscaster; Julian Phillips, newscaster and chef; Christina Sanchez, sous chef to Bobby Flay; and Burt Young, actor and artist. The panel will also feature a client from the Helen Keller National Center and representatives from the events two “Commissioner sponsors” – Anne Arter from Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty and Joe Canigiani from Joseph N. Canigiani, Inc. The winner, as determined by a vote of the panel, is given the prestigious “Judges’ Choice Award.”
The participating restaurants also provide bread and crackers for the tasters. The Port Washington Chamber of Commerce will be collecting non-perishable food which will be donated, along with a portion of proceeds, to the Twin Pines food pantry.
