PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Two people were sent to a hospital after an Uber driver drove his SUV through a fence and plunged into a backyard swimming pool in Port Washington.

Nassau County police said the 66-year-old man driving the SUV was traveling north on Port Washington Boulevard around 10 a.m. Wednesday and failed to turn at a bend in the roadway. The SUV left the road, drove into a wooded area and smashed through a fence before coming to a rest in the pool of a home on Sunnyvale Road in Flower Hill.

Two people were able to get out of the SUV, which was about half-way submerged in water. The driver and adult male passenger both suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
