Volunteers Build Wheelchair Ramp For Veterans In Port Washington

The ramp was built at the local VFW Hall.

A group of volunteers helped build a wheelchair ramp for a veterans in Port Washington.

The ramp was built at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Hall, located at 29 Mohegan Ave., with help from volunteers from Rebuilding Together Long Island, Sears, the management team from the Long Island Nets and Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso.

“I am honored to have had the opportunity to help the veterans who have served our country,” D’Urso said in a press release. “Building this ramp was a small gesture to show my appreciation for the veterans who have given so much to protect our freedom.”

The nonprofit Rebuilding Together has helped more than 14,250 veterans through the $21 million provided by the Heroes at Home program. Rebuilding Together is partnered with the Sears’ Heroes at Home program and have completed almost 1,700 rebuilding projects.

Every year, thousands of volunteers at Rebuilding Together provide free home repairs and improvements for low-income people, older adults, people with disabilities, military veterans and families in need.
