1 Dead, 1 Critical After Fiery Crash In Crown Heights: Cops

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — One man is dead and another in critical condition after a fiery crash in Crown Heights early Saturday morning, according to police.

Emergency responders found the two men inside a Maserati engulfed in flames near Atlantic and Rochester avenues just before 3:30 a.m., according to police.

After firefighters put out the blaze, the driver was pronounced dead. His 35-year-old passenger was taken to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Investigators say the two had been speeding west on Atlantic Avenue when the driver lost control, mounted the curb and hit a pillar underneath the elevated Long Island Railroad Tracks, police said.

The crash is being investigated by the NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad.
