CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Three people were hurt by unknown fumes inside a Crown Heights school on Monday afternoon, according to officials.

Emergency responders were called to the International High School at Prospect Heights — which is actually found in Crown Heights on Classon Avenue — just before 2 p.m. for reports of unknown fumes in a room on the fourth floor, according to fire officials.

The incident did not require the department's hazmat team, according to the spokesperson.

Hazmat teams, or "hazardous materials" teams, are called in when it is necessary to evacuate people, contain and remove a harmful substance, according to the FDNY.

The NYPD did not have any additional information about the situation.

The school, found between President and Union streets, appears to have been under construction as recently as June 2021, according to building records. The property has been issued a dozen construction violations from the city's Department of Buildings in the last seven years, records show.

There are also several open violations at the school related to its elevator, records show.

A call to the school Monday afternoon went unanswered.
