This afternoon the building, 487 St. Marks Ave. between Classon and Franklin avenues, was blocked off by police tape and detectives were canvassing nearby apartments for witnesses. Neighbors gathered outside.

“It’s upsetting. You come outside and you see a bunch of cops and find out somebody’s passed away,” said a neighbor who declined to give his name.

Down the block at 515 St. Marks Ave., another police officer stood guard. The janitor at 515, who gave only his first name, John, said at about 8 a.m. he found blood on the doorknob and inside when he came to take out the garbage.

“When I got here somebody said look at this blood … there were blood drops going up to the second floor,” he said.

Cops at the 77th Precinct said the death has been ruled a homicide. Police are withholding the woman’s name pending family notification.
