CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — The Anti-Defamation League is offering up a $5,000 reward for information about a possible hate crime in Crown Heights over the weekend.

The organization said Monday that they will give up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible in the assault, which unfolded near Troy Avenue and Carroll Street around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

A 21-year-old man was walking on the block in traditional Hasidic clothing when someone across the street walked over and punched him in the nose, police said.

The man was treated for his injuries at the scene and the suspect was last seen on Troy Avenue, according to police.

“These attacks on Jewish individuals appear to have become normalized, but we must not let this be the case – an attack on anyone based on their Jewish identity or any identity is abhorrent and should not be tolerated,” said Scott Richman, ADL New York/New Jersey Regional Director. “We hope that this reward offering will help us send that message to the community.”

Last weekend's attack is far from the first time the NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force has been called to the neighborhood to investigate an assault on the Jewish community.

The ADL has also offered rewards for information when a 25-year-old in the neighborhood was attacked by a group who called him a "dirty Jew" and in an assault on a pregnant woman, both of which unfolded late last year.

Anyone with information about the most recent incident is encouraged to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
