B and Q Trains In Brooklyn Delayed After Prospect Park Track Fire

The track fire caused the trains to skip stations Thursday afternoon and caused delays on the B and Q lines going into Manhattan.

PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS, NY — The hellish conditions of the subways continued on Thursday after a track fire caused delays to the Brooklyn B and Q lines heading to Manhattan, according to the MTA. The B train was already snarled because of rail conditions in Midtown.

The tracks at the Prospect Park station of the B and Q lines caught fire at about 12:43 p.m. causing Manhattan-bound trains to run through the N line from Stillwell to Dekalb avenues, the MTA said. The flames were put out by the FDNY a short time later and service resumed to normal at about 12:53 p.m., a spokesman for the MTA said.

The B train was already running with delays on Thursday afternoon because of "rail conditions" at the 42nd Street-Bryant Park station, according to the agency. Service for that line was still impacted as of 1:30 p.m., the spokesman said.

Thursday marked the third day in a week straphangers dealt with hellish commutes on the rails. Debris on the tracks of the R train left riders strander on platforms or struggling to get into packed trains during the morning commute and New Jersey Transit canceled all outbound trains from Penn Station due to a stuck bridge.

The L train was also hit with delays after a person was struck by a train at the Bedford Avenue stop on Thursday afternoon.
