Lefferts Gardens Baseball Bat Attack Leaves Victim in Critical Condition
A pedestrian in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens was brutally attacked by a man with a bat on Sunday, according to the NYPD.

PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — A brutal baseball-bat attack in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens last weekend sent a man to the hospital in critical condition, according to the NYPD.
Police said the victim was walking in front of 578 Albany Ave., up near Crown Heights and Brownsville, around 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, when a man approached him from behind and hit him in the head with a bat.
The victim fell to the ground, where the suspect continued to strike him in the head and body, according to the NYPD.

The assailant then fled, traveling west on Rutland Road, police said.
The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition.

Detectives described the suspect as a black male, aged around 30 years old and standing about 6-feet-2-inches.
He has a heavy build, a dark complexion and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, police said.

This assault occurred in the NYPD's 71st Precinct, where through July 31, major crimes were collectively down about 15 percent compared to the same period last year, according to police statistics.
However, felony assaults have proven an exception to that trend. There have been eight more attacks so far this year compared to last year — from 195 to 203.
