"He was just the most special person," Uster's mother, Annie Goldner, told Streetsblog NYC.
Uster was a member of Transportation Alternatives and a passionate advocate for safer roads, his mother told Streetsblog.
Uster's mother said her last words to her son, before he left on his fatal bike trip to Wegmans, were "be safe."
"We are devastated to learn that Adam Uster — a longtime biker, community member, and TA member — was killed by a truck driver," said Transportation Alternatives Executive Director Danny Harris in a statement.
Uster is the 13th cyclist to die in 2023, according to Transportation Alternatives. 2023 already rapidly outpacing 2022, which saw 22 cyclist deaths in NYC throughout the entire year — seven of which were in Brooklyn, according to NYC Crash Mapper.
"This was another preventable tragedy in our neighborhood, caused by a failure to build safe bike infrastructure and an epidemic of reckless driving," said Council Member Chi Ossé in a Tweet Wednesday.
"My heart breaks for Adam and his family."
