Boy In Critical Condition After Prospect Park Lake Rescue: NYPD
A passerby jumped in to help a 13-year-old boy who had been underwater for minutes, according to reports.
PROSPECT HEIGHTS, NY — A 13-year-old boy was in critical condition after being rescued from Prospect Park Lake Tuesday evening, police said Wednesday.
Firefighters pulled the boy from the water about 5:30 p.m. and took him to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to the NYPD.
Witnesses told the New York Daily News the boy was one of five playing in the water Tuesday evening. He told his friends he was in trouble, then flailed and went under water, a witness told the Daily News.

It was minutes before a passerby and emergency personnel jumped in to get the boy from underwater, another witness told the New York Post.
Photos posted to the New York post show a group of people pulling the boy out of the water, and then performing CPR on the surface.

Videos show multiple police and fire vehicles up near the lake and a helicopter flying overhead.
Tuesday's horrific scene is not the first of its kind in Prospect Park Lake. In 2017, a 19-year-old was found dead in the lake with no signs of trauma.
In 2014, a two-year-old girl's body was discovered in the lake after she and her three-year-old cousin went missing in Prospect Park, Gothamist reported.
