Community Board Offices Closed For Poor Air Quality
Community Boards 8 and 9 will be all remote today as NYC's air quality remains poor due to wildfires in Canada.

CROWN HEIGHTS, NY — Central Brooklyn's Community Boards closed their offices Thursday as Canadian wildfires continued to obliterate New York City's air quality.
Community Boards 8 and 9 will work remotely Thursday, closing their respective offices on St Marks and Nostrand avenues.
Community Board 8 also moved its general board meeting Thursday online.

"Out of caution, Brooklyn Community Board 9's Board Office located at 890 Nostrand Avenue... will be closed today, June 8, 2023 due to the ongoing air quality conditions across the City," the board announced Thursday morning.
Canadian wildfires sent smoke across NYC's skyline Wednesday and Thursday, creating extremely hazardous air quality. Many activities were cancelled, including opening night of BRIC's Prospect Park summer festival.

New Yorkers on Wednesday were advised to stay indoors as much as possible. Thursday's conditions remained hazardous, but forecasters said New Yorkers could see some improvement.
