Crown Heights Board Gets Manager After Years-Long Search: Report
Community Board 9 in Crown Heights went for six years without a district manager after a string of controversies, Brooklyn Paper reports.
CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Crown Heights' Community Board 9 has hired a new district manager after a string of controversies led the position to be absent for six years, the Brooklyn Paper reports.
The board voted to hire Dante Arnwine this week for the position, which involved scheduling and keeping records for the 44-person board. Arnwine was chosen from 142 applications for the position and will make an $85,000 salary.
The board has largely operated without a district manager since 2015, when Pearl Miles was removed from her position for a “pattern of misconduct” and “unprofessional behavior,” according to the outlet.

Another district manager hired in 2016, Carmen Martinez, served briefly before being ousted after a lawsuit about the hiring process. A judge found that the board failed to follow its by-laws and did not properly notify the community about the open position.
Arnwine promised a vision of change for the board.

“I have a vision for the office, I really believe that this is a time for the community board to really take a step forward and change the way the people think about community boards,” he said. “I really want to figure out a way to use technology to make the office more efficient, more effective.”
