Crown Heights Man Still At Large After 2022 Double Homicide: NYPD
The 36-year-old is accused of shooting two in a West Indian restaurant almost a year ago.

CROWN HEIGHTS, NY — A man accused of shooting and killing two people in a Crown Heights restaurant was still at large nearly a year later, police said Tuesday.
Ornando Bovell, 36, participated in a double homicide on Oct. 27, 2022 at Miguel's West Indian Restaurant, on Lott Avenue and Strauss Street, according to the NYPD.
As of Tuesday night, police had not caught Bovell but arrested his partner-in-crime in February — Sawandi Galara, 46, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, police said. Galara faced murder and weapons charges.

Bovell and Galara are accused of fatally shooting Damien White, 45, of Flatlands, and Eyon Johnson, 46, of Crown Heights, police said.
The duo shot White and Johnson multiple times inside the restaurant just before 9 a.m., police said. While Johnson died shortly after, White died days later in an area hospital, police said.

The New York Daily News reported that Johnson and White were workers at the restaurant and were renovating the space at the time. The shooters waited outside dressed in all black and followed the two workers in, according to the New York Daily News.
