Teen Trapped In Abandoned Vault By Friends In Crown Heights: NYPD

Authorities found a 17-year-old trapped in a vault in an abandoned Crown Heights building Thursday night. The teen emerged without injury.

CROWN HEIGHTS, NY — A teenager was locked inside a vault by his friends in an abandoned Crown Heights building Thursday night, police said.

Two teenage boys locked their 17-year-old friend in a vault about 11:30 p.m. inside an abandoned building on Franklin Avenue near Montgomery Street, according to the NYPD.

The three kids were inside the building when the 17-year-old went into the vault area — and his friend shut the door behind him, police said.

The kid emerged with no injuries, authorities said.

The friends ran before an elaborate, 40-minute FDNY rescue ensued — firefighters tried to break through the door using a saw, torch and a sledgehammer, according to FDNY. They ultimately pulled the teen through a hole in the wall.

There were no charges and the investigation remained ongoing Friday morning, police said.

The building was formerly a spice factory, police said.
