Family-Run Taiwanese Dumpling Shop Opens New Location In Brooklyn
The popular dumpling shop Formosa, which already has a location in Bushwick, offers a variety of dumplings and noodle dishes.

BROOKLYN, NY — Formosa, the dumpling and noodle shop that shook up Bushwick in 2023, is opening a new chapter with a Prospect Heights location.
Run by co-owner Hsin Chang Lee and his daughter Chuya Lee, Formosa specializes in handmade dumplings and comforting dishes like beef noodle soup, lu rou fan, popcorn chicken, and other Taiwanese street food favorites — all crafted from family-inspired recipes.
Their original spot at 144 Evergreen Avenue, on the corner of Jefferson Street, has been a local success for nearly two years. Now, their second location at 43 Underhill Avenue, between Dean Street and Washington Avenue, opened just a few weeks ago.

"When we first opened our door in Bushwick almost two years ago, we didn’t know what to expect. What we found was more than just customers — we found a community that welcomed us, supported us through this challenging journey and helped us grow," they wrote on social media. "This new chapter in Prospect Heights is only made possible because of all of your constant warm support."
According to the duo, Formosa’s story begins with family—and dumplings.

For more than 20 years, Hsin Chang Lee ran a beloved dumpling franchise in Taiwan, winning hearts with his “signature pork” creation. Launched in 1993, the franchise grew into a 100-location empire in his native country. (Its name roughly translates to “Overseas Dragon”; Lee has since sold his stake in the business.)
"When we opened our doors here in Brooklyn, we brought that same recipe with us, along with his passion for introducing the flavors of Taiwan to a broader audience," the duo wrote on their website.
Their menu features dumpling platters with eight pieces, available pan-fried or boiled, including Signature Pork, Chicken with Napa Cabbage, and a Veggie option. Other highlights include Fried King Oyster Mushrooms, Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup and Taiwanese Pork Buns.
The new Prospect Heights location is currently open Friday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. as they work to build up their staffing.
