Girl Hit By School Bus In Crown Heights, In Critical Condition

She was hit at the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and St. John's Place, police said.

CROWN HEIGHTS, NY — An 11-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a school bus at the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and St. John's Place in Crown Heights, the NYPD told Patch.

The girl was walking east on St. John's on Wednesday and crossed Nostrand Avenue while the walk sign was on, police said. The school bus was also driving that way on St. John's and tried to make a right turn while the girl was in the intersection, police said.

The bus hit the girl and knocked her to the ground, police said, and the rear wheels ran over her. She was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition, police said.

"Several passengers" were on the bus when it hit the girl, police said.

The driver, 28-year-old Shneur Brownstein, was placed under arrest and charged with failure to yield and failure to exercise due care, police said. The bus was registered to United Lubavitcher Yeshiva in Crown Heights, police said.
